hurrah. or hurrah! depending on how you feel about exclamation points.

fourteen days and counting, folks, and once again my carefully drafted blueprints for a handmade christmas are zoned for demolition.

nevertheless.

'tis not too late to buy handmade, and lucky you and me both, i have rustled up some bonafide gems from the wondrous landscape of etsy.

christmas finds

row one: ruby lip gloss : pair of stitch mugs : peppermint bark : snuggle letterpress card
row two: matryoshka doll : handknit leg warmers : flower headband : mini candy canes
row three: holiday deer letterpress cards : vintage fabric pin cushion : peppermint wonderland print : blueberry mitts
row four: vintage cake stand : candy cane pants : all-i-want letterpress card : handbound journal

speaking of etsy giftage, i closed up shop for the holiday a few days back (because i like my family and my sleep), but since i have the kindest customers and bloggy friends and regular-like friends this side of the deplaneted pluto, i am offering one last hurrah in the form of a giveaway.

so here we go, a brand-new-ish design consisting of a sterling heart and a gently hammered sterling washer, handstamped with the text of your choosing and strung up on a silver chain. i shall even write up a little card for you if you'd like this sent directly to the recipient.

to enter, please drop your name in the comments below (along with a way to get a hold of you) and answer me this: what is, in your estimation, the best christmas carol ever?

there is, of course, a correct answer to this question, but fortunately the winner shall be selected at random based purely on participation (as opposed to the capricious and overbearing opinions of yours truly). (at least i can own it.)

this giveaway will be closed at 11:59 pm monday (12/13), and i shall draw a name on tuesday.

happy weekending, folks! be warm and merry.

:)

Pick me, pick me! The best Christmas Carol ever is of course JOY TO THE WORLD! The version done by Whitney Houston in the movie The Preacher's Wife is FABULOUS! Notice please, that I am fond of exclamation points and ALL CAPS!!!

I think the best Christmas carol is Oh Little Town of Bethlehem. It reminds me of being a little kiddo all snuggled up on the pull out couch in front of the lit tree. I used to squint my eyes until all the little white lights became blurry stars. My parents had an old tape of carols that used to crackle and pop while it played. Ahhh, the memories...

The best Christmas Carol ever HAS to be "O Holy Night" - it's so haunting and quiet and yet shivering with unparalleled excitement. I think it captures perfectly what all the world felt that amazing night.

I'd absolutely love to win this piece of jewelry - I really like your work!!

Oh Holy Night- english and hawaiian version by Willie K. Love the climax at "...fall on your knees, oh hear the angel voices...". THanks for the contest and giving us time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. Tisha

Well, it's not the greatest, I'm sure, because it's fairly new but, MARY, DID YOU KNOW has some awesome words. Otherwise I would guess Silent Night.

Hi Nicole!
What a lovely, lovely necklace. I'd love to win it!

I have to say, I'm such a sucker for "Of the Father's Love Begotten." We've been listening to good Christmas carol cd's in our home and in our car all month and this is one that I like to tune in to hear and sing along when it comes on.

"Evermore and evermore!"

"Oh Holy Night" for sure! Love the necklace!

Oh that's gorgeous Nic! Love the new design!

My favourite carol is O Come, O Come Emmanuel. It fills my heart.

Chanelle said...

Definitely "Oh Come All Ye Faithful", especially in four part harmony! Beautiful necklace!

Terri said...

Well I would have to say my favorite is Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire/The Christmas Song. It has a sort of warm coziness to it! (terripeters@cox.net)

Unknown said...

Um, O Come O Come Emmanuel? IS that a Carol? Hopefully.
I personally like Handel's Messiah the most, but no one walks around singing, "COMFORT YE MY PEOPLE" anymore, so that probably doesn't count.
I LOVE EXCLAMATION POINTS! WHOOOOOOOO!

Kindra said...

Ok, so I don't know if it's technically a 'carol' but my favorite Christmas song is 'Baby It's Cold Outside'...followed closely by 'O Come Emmanuel'

...and you know where to find me :)

Rod and Sara said...

Of course, it is 'We wish you a merry Christmas'... I remember singing it over and over as a little girl when we went caroling. Love the fuzzy memories it brings back when I sing it now!

Happy Holidays!!!

I've always loved the Christmas carol "Silent Night."

When I was a kid, my parents (along with a church group we belonged to) would take my sisters and I caroling. We didn't hit the usual spots, but instead went to the nursing homes in town. The sweet residents would come out of their doors and into the hallways to listen to the ragtag bunch of kids sing off-key Christmas carols at the top of our lungs.

It was a great time for all of us.

One year, we sang at the door of a little old lady. She came out of her room with her hands clasped and a huge smile on her face. We asked if she had any special requests, and she asked for "Silent Night." As we sang, I saw tears welling up in her eyes as her smile grew. I knew then that the true joy of Christmas wasn't really getting all the things on my list, but in making someone else happy, and in a small way, bringing real joy into someone's life.

The best Christmas carol is Angels We Have Heard on High, the Aretha Franklin version.

There are so many good Christmas carols, but two of my favorites (at least the ones I can think of right now!) are God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and Angels We Have Heard on High. (and I think my e-mail's linked in my profile)

Well, in my estimation Oh Holy Night is the most gorgeous Christmas carol there is to be heard... especially if sung by one of those really beautiful and powerful voices... on Martina McBride comes to mind, lol. And Evey says "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" is her favorite... and yes, I concur, it IS her favorite, lol.

gorgeous necklace there... I have one very similar and I dearly love it!!

Hmmm, I don't know if you could consider my favorite a "carol" necessarily since I can't imagine standing at my neighbors door singing it...but...I love "Mele Kalikimaka" by Bing Crosby! I spent several years teaching in the Marshall Islands and this song just reminds me of the Christmases I spent there (and fun, fun layovers in Hawaii)! :)

I sing this carol year round and it moves me to tears almost every time I hear it. O' Holy Night is my most favorite for sure! Thanks for a chance, I just love that necklace!

did i miss it? you didn't say where in the world it had to be 11:59 p.m. (ok, so i missed it here by 15 minutes, too). but, just in case you take pity on me, here goes...one of my favorites is "All I want for Christmas is You". submitted by: your pink dress friend

I realize that I'm too late for the giveaway, but I just wanted to comment anyway. Silent Night is my all time favourite Carol. I sing it to my girl every night of the year at bedtime.
