laundry: 4 loads completed, 3 to go
treadmill: 1 mile down, 4 to go
sewing: .75 projects done, 1.25 to go
photos: done
lunch: done
neatening of household clutter: done (and yet somehow never done)
there are still bills to be paid, papers to be sorted, emails to respond to. and in twenty minutes the boys shall pound through the front doorway with their heaps of homework and energy and retellings of recess capers and general school paraphernalia. we'll do math facts and spelling words and snacks and dinner. we'll fold laundry and play games and brush our teeth to the background cacaphony of a family of six.
but for just a minute, in the middle of this half-finished day, i breathe in the quiet. and i relish this moment where it couldn't be clearer how beautiful an ordinary life can be.

Absolutely lovely! Your pictures made the ordinary, extraordinary.
your life certainly is beautiful..in many, many ways.
Those pictures are so beautiful!
What IS it with those school papers? They multiply. I'm glad we recycle.
I'm happy for you that you can see the beauty in an ordinary life. That's something I strive for daily.
yes...excitement is over-rated...unless it is a surprise trip to a tropical island, that is. yeah for you for realizing NOW how the ordinary days will remain the closest to your heart. someday we will wish these never-ending days back :) beautious photos as well dear friend!

You have no ordinary life- you have the gift of words, beautiful children, a knack for all motherhood entails....And somehow, the way you put things just made me feel much, much better about doing laundry, lunch, neatening:)
Oh, Nic! I totally missed reading your blog. You have such a gift! This post was beautiful and it touched me so. I haven't had much time for blog surfing lately but tonight Jon is working on my Mac so I hopped on his puter and since I can't do anything on here but surf the web, I landed here tonight. So glad I did! LOVE YA, friend!!

I appreciate the stacks and piles of books. And the peek of the one on the treadmill. And heavens, what do you need that vintage baby scale for? Send it to me.
Day middles are valuable here too.
