GQ/booklove

i apologize for my brief absence; i was single-parenting-it again this week, and having sole responsibility for the welfare and general alive-ness of our children always ends up a wee bit emotionally taxing. those of you who do this on a regular basis have been elevated to legendary status in my book.

thankfully, hubby is back, but today has still been crazy-busy, so this shall just be a brief pop-in post.

thursday brought the happy chance to photograph these two dapper fellows.

thanks, guys--you two are naturals in front of the camera.

and also, i owe y'all july's booklist...
SPECIALS (Scott Westerfield)
EXTRAS (Scott Westerfield)
IF A TREE FALLS AT LUNCH PERIOD (Gennifer Choldenko)
KIRA-KIRA (Cynthia Kadohata)
OUTSIDE BEAUTY (Cynthia Kadohata)
THE ASTONISHING LIFE OF OCTAVIAN NOTHING, TRAITOR TO THE NATION: Vol 1 The Pox Party (MT Anderson)
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, I'M NOW THE GIRLFRIEND OF A SEX GOD (Louise Rennison)
KNOCKED OUT BY MY NUNGA-NUNGAS (Louise Rennison)
THE EARTH, MY BUTT, AND OTHER BIG ROUND THINGS (Carolyn Mackler)
CRISS CROSS (Lynne Rae Perkins)

rennison's books are always dear to my heart with their unexpected, irreverent humor, but anderson's OCTAVIAN NOTHING took the trophy this time 'round. poetic, honest, disquieting...a must read.

and now back to my regularly scheduled psychosis...

Still shocked and amazed at your ability to read, sew, take pics, run, blog, and be a mother. What is your secret? Do you sleep???

Nic, I know what you mean. My hubby travels often for business, and it can be really tough sometimes!!! Your pics are gorgeous, and I love those 2 boys - very handsome. :-) Helena

I'll have to read those Rennison books. My daughter, who doesn't like to read anything but RUNNER'S magazine, ate those up. She had to get the new one each time they came out. I just love all the titles! Thanks for the nudge, they are just sitting here on my bookcase asking to be read.

Thank you thank you thank you for the booklist! I have really been struggling lately to find books that inspire me, I feel like I've read them all, and it seems easier to just craft through my normal evening reading time. You've given me some great titles to chase up!

Yes, parenting alone is huge. Huge!

beautiful pictures. just wonderful.

I wish I could read as much as you do. I go to the library and stare at the massive amounts of books and leave overwhelmed and empty handed. I'm going to have to make a reading list, I think.
