a finding walk

yesterday elle and i went on a finding walk, which is the kind of walk where you wander about your neighborhood and find things in other people's yards.

our anthology of treasures:

a stripey feather

a belated dandelion

tiny fuzzy berries that maybe drop from our trees?

rocks coated with a fine, white dust

clover

and their little yellow flowers (incidentally, we used to chew these clover flowers as kids--they have a pleasant tangy flavor, although PLEASE do not try this at home in case they wind up being horribly toxic or something)

african marigolds

and a walking stick to aid us on the trek home

here's the whole shebang sitting in what elle dubbed our "collecting spot"

{for the record, i solemnly swear that we did *not* pick the marigold; we found it wilting on the grass next to a driveway planter. please do not report me to the neighborhood crime watch.}

may your weekend contain a treasure hunt or two (or seventeen). :) happy saturday.

Look at all that stuff! Evey just loves finding walks. They are her all time favorite thing. Even more than slushes and that's really saying something.

ohhh I love these pictures and so wish that I had had my "big girl" camera when Stink was a wee lass.

The big girl, upon returning from a "finding walk" with Stink bequethed her a black and white composition book thereafter referred to as "The Nature Notebook" a sort of pressed treasury of findings.

On her birthday, every year, we take a picture of la Stink with her "favorite thing"; the nature notebook held the honor two years in a row! (4 and 5).

I saved it. It's pressed dandelions and nut shells, and early child words are the fuel for my weary mother's heart.

Thank you for reminding me.

WOW those are some nice looking treasures. I bet they would look great in a shadow box. It would remind her of your finding walks together when she gets older!
