This sweet child turned eight today.
Sometimes I catch myself studying the pale curve of his cheeks, and I think he's still my baby
but asplitsecondlater the light changes and he's all
angles
and
stretching limbs,
growing toward a wide world that is not me.
Funny how birthdays make me walk that razor-thin wire between happy and sad. So thankful for these eight years, so wishing for a hundred more.

He does have that look to him that says he'll someday be breaking hearts. But accidentally. There's a sweetness to him still.
I would so kill for those lashes!
As the children get older their birthdays do become bitter-sweet....I always reflect back to when they were toddlers and I get a little teary.
You said it perfectly. My children's birthdays are so bittersweet. Great post and your son looks like such a sweetheart.
He is growing too fast-- all of them are!!

Happy Birthday!! So sweet!
Nicole-
Again, you say what we all have in our minds on children's birthdays, but phrased poetically.
You have such beautiful children!!!
My 8 yr. old is sitting here, and she says your 8 yr. old is cute... uh oh! She better stop growing up, right now...
Look at those gorgeous blue green eyes. Wow.
