booklove cont'd

March booklist (YA, fiction, narrative nonfic):

INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (Anne Rice)
TO OWN A DRAGON (Donald Miller)
HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (JK Rowling)
FEVER 1793 (Laurie Halse Anderson)
HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY (Douglas Adams)
SPEAK (Laurie Halse Anderson)
THE ROPE TRICK (Lloyd Alexander)
THE CHOCOLATE WAR (Robert Corimer)
THE FIRST PART LAST (Angela Johnson)
KETURAH AND LORD DEATH (Martine Leavitt)
GIRLS, DRUMS, AND DANGEROUS PIE (Jordan Sonnenblick)
THE DEITY FORMERLY KNOWN AS GOD (Jarrett Stevens)

Two faves this time around: HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE (zany plot, offbeat humor), and GIRLS, DRUMS, AND DANGEROUS PIE, which, as Frank McCourt says, is a "brave book...Sonnenblick carries it off with such charm and élan, you forget for a moment your heart is breaking."

Happy reading! :)

I love reading, also..but how do you find the time to read so much?!?

I'm going to FL in 2 weeks for vacation...give me one fic and one non-fic I ought to take with me...

well, i read while i walk on the treadmill at night. it's what i do instead of watching tv 'cause i'm lame like that.

i wish i knew your taste a little better. hmmmn...

fiction: i loved LORD OF THE RINGS (which should occupy most of your two weeks), but you've probably already read that.

HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY is totally pointless, but you'll love it if oddball humor is your thing. then again, this title has been popular since i was about three or something, so you've likely read that too.

LOOKING FOR ALASKA by john green is good.

and i'm in the middle of a book that (so far) is fab: SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT (derek landy). i'm thinking that since you liked harry potter and spiderwick, chances are good you'll enjoy this one, too.

narrative nonfic? well, i'd say either SEX GOD (rob bell), SPEAKING MY MIND (tony campolo), or GRACE EVENTUALLY (anne lamott--i don't line up with all of her theology, but all of her books are fantastic reads).

hth! :)

How in the world do you read this much? So you answered that already but still...

I'm going to check out some of these. I have quite a to-read list already but there are a couple of these I'm interested in.

For next months reads....check out The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory - it's a really good historical fic read.

Hey, psst...
I know this has nothing to do with books, which by the way I don't know how you read on the treadmill... Hmm... maybe I just bob my head too much. Anyway, wanted to tell you that either your memory has deceived you or your ears, but I don't remember singing that well.

By the way, I've been reading Nursing Care of Infants and Children--I recommend it if you are stuck on an island for a whole year with nothing to do, no one to talk to, and nothing to eat. See you in May!!

Keep up the reading and keep encouraging my grandkids to be readers. I really enjoyed "The Deity Formerly Known as God".

jen: i will def pick that up once it's in at my library. i might have to reserve it; it's always out. thanks for the recommendation!

also, you have to remember that i read mostly YA and narrative nonfic, which tend to be shorter than fic. so i don't read as much as you think.

anony: while the accuracy of my memory is often dubious, it's hard to forget a voice like yours. and, um, thanks for your book recommendation, too. sounds riveting. ;)

Hitchhiker's Guide - I giggle at the thought...one of my all time favourites. I haven't read many of the others on your list though!

I read every single book Anne Rice wrote when I was in college (89 - 93) . I was a huge GOTH back then... LOL! How are you liking "Interview"? I have not ventured to read that other chick's (what's her face) vampire books because I fear they will never compare the THE QUEEN. ;)
