she turns the cover and skies peel back, whole universes string together bright and unwrinkled.
a spread of small, determined fingers press the paper. inked glyphs rise and pulse into talking farm animals, a silly babysitter, a junie b kindergartner with a riot of personality.

she can read, and walls crash down at her glance. i'm giddy with the rumble of flying motorcycles and the glint of mallorn-treed woods in her reach, of a lifetime of storied scapes to wander.
but especially. and best of all. when dark settles soft near eight o'clock and she pulls me or her daddy to her bible. and she ushers us into the bubbling pools and the vineyards and once more the Word becomes flesh. this time for her.
she can read.

Oh, I love it so much: brings tears to my eyes. I remember when my son learned to read and how I took a deep breath and thought: my work in this area is mostly done, now, because he is in love and will go forward into the books on his own, now. Your photos are amazing: beautiful daughter!
oh reading is the best! especially when it is at a young age! how sweet she is! and the WORD being made flesh... so very wonderful!
:o)
simply sweet.. beautiful prose, beautiful daughter! blessings abound! :o)
precious. and i love junie b. jones! i miss her.
what a joy to watch THIS come alive in a young life.
She can READ!
Love everything about this post...from one bibliophile to another.
oh girl this made me teary. you are awesome. your sweet one excited about the bible...oh it's just too much!
lovely lovely post. E is in exactly the same amazing stage and I just love it. she'd devouring Junie B. whole and has a real fondness of non-fiction, which I find to be interesting. She's definitely a learner, that one is. GORGEOUS photos girl. That book pic is just amazing.
What a joy to watch. That's so exciting, and watching her begin to feed on His Word on her own. I can't even imagine how fulfilling that is. Oh and I love mallorn trees; I'd love to sleep on a Lothlorien platform among the mallorn in spring.
When I read this and saw your blog name, all I could think of was Mrs. Piggle wiggle and reading with my son.
oh nic...
you have no idea how i long for this for my boy. he treasures books so, and he's only 15 months. but to help him treasure the Bible... to help him LOVE it... how? how does one do this? i find such hope in this post. and your photos are breath-taking.
(thank you for linking)
So beautiful & lovely. Your daughter's going to be a heartbreaker for sure.
Isn't that just the best feeling? When they finally get it and WANT to read. And WANT to read the Word. Such a milestone.
This is beautiful! Makes me so anxious for the day my nephew starts to read. But then I think... then he won't ask me to read to him anymore!!
Beautiful, the prose and the sweet new reader!
i'm still in awe that my oldest can read. it never fails to delight me when she reads something, anything. she's falling in love with the written word, just like her mother, and now stacks of books are starting to pile up in her room just like the rest of our house. *cough*
Oh beautiful. This gave me such shivers, the good kind (and such hope for my own girls).
The words and the pictures in this post make me - life-long-reader and teacher-at-heart happy.
stunning. I love this. You have a gift with words my love.
Beautiful, the prose and the sweet new reader!
