nevertheless. my belated list of thankfuls, continued:
6. the mournful bleating of a late-summer cricket.
7. butterscotch dip paired with wedges of crisp apples.
8. books with language you can lose yourself in.

9. woolen socks. (and these would be theoretical woolen socks. i do not own any, but i like the idea of them: sturdy, humble, warm.)
10. peppermint toothpaste.
11. the peace of solitary mornings.
12. the peace of jumbled, noisy afternoons.
13. letters in the mail. (and the miracle of postal systems that deliver missives from across the globe to my very front door. or, okay, very end of my driveway. but that distance is manageable.)
14. brothers who don’t outgrow me.
15. lambent japanese anemones under a grey swath of sky.

16. the smell of september, laced with moss and peat and woodsmoke.
17. friends with beautiful feet.
18. second chances.
19. rain.
20. a God who bleeds and sustains.

I don't think I knew that fall anemone were called that.
love it , thank you.
and gratitude everyday is key, no?
so good to have a grateful heart and to actually look around and observe all that we have. love it! belated or not it was perfect:)
deb, you are right, i'm mixing up moonflowers with anemones. no wonder i can barely even keep weeds alive. :) i've edited the post, and now sound a bit smarter, thanks to you.
I love many theoretical things.
The postal system IS amazing.
And I sometimes forget that you have a brother - a brother that I KNOW. And then I have to remind myself that you are not brand new to my, yourself! And then I get dizzy over the notions of new possibilities and the beauty of growing older and then I'm just thankful that I have you in my life now.
Lately I've been letting annoyance overcome gratitude. It's as if both are present in equal measure in my life but somehow I let the scale tip just the slightest bit...
Thank you for the poignant reminder, and the smiles evoked by this sweet post.
thanks for the picture for 15, and sounds like your 17 has a story.=) so many well captured moments to savor.
