this is the year. [adoption update]

realistically, i know to expect a lot of waiting. that's pretty much the one thing i've been guaranteed about the adoption process: we will wait. and also wait. and then after that? wait some more.

but i've secretly harbored this hope that our case will be the anomaly, the one that progresses like a whirlwind and ends up with our fifth child tucked safely in bed just down the hall in, say, two months' time. because we all know someone with a miracle story like this, and so we think, we hope: it can be done. that will be us.

but yeah, so far we're the ninety-nine point nine percent. and so we wait.

[in december we were accepted into holt's ethiopia program. currently, we're waiting for our scheduled doctors' appointments to happen; we are all required a physical assessment before our homestudy can begin.]

nonetheless.

on wednesday a friend echoed the very phrase i've been turning in my head, over and again: this is the year. this is the year we meet our next little, the year our family stretches and grows in ways that will be amazing and exhausting and wonderful.

i'm so, so glad.

The good thing about waiting is that it grows so much love that you think your heart will burst. And you haven't even met your love yet! But the waiting is good. And this IS the year. And it can only get better, friend. So glad we can walk this road together. The waiting is easier too when you have a friend to talk to. I for one can't WAIT to see who God chooses to sleep in that little bed down your hallway.

I hope the process to your new little one goes quickly. Waiting is never fun, but the excitement is just beginning! You're going to have fun!

My dear friend Jenn (who I believe you know) is waiting to wait...and my heart has been so full on her behalf for so long. Reading this pushed me over the edge and I just want to weep for the sorrow of the wait and the joy at the end, altogether, all at once.

Well, this is all positively exciting. Calvin just said the other night "We need another girl with poofy hair - for Ruby!" ;) Regardless, I'll be watching every step of your process. Meanwhile, just...nest! You're so good at that. :)

Grandma is excited and anxiously waiting too. I can't wait to greet my two new grandchildren, and cuddle, hug, giggle and laugh together.

but, then suddenly they are here! tucked in safely next to their sister. all big, hopeful eyes and holding you tight. this IS the year.

Wishing you the best of luck, my dear, and only wishing that we could do the same.

Big sigh.

nic, I hope your new addition comes sooner than expected. What a lucky one he or she will be.
We have been looking into adoption since the quake in Haiti (we've aways wanted a family of four)and hope someday to welcome a another member to our family from there.
